ALthough FidoNet is not as popular as in the 20s anymore and I really do
understand that people who actually still use it would love to see more
users come back or even experience FidoNet the first time, I don't think that
telegram is the best way.

It IS modern and well adopted, but personally, I don't trust telegram. 
Also, this platform has quite a tendency to attract people with kind of
a weird view on the world.

Lately, I thought that reviving FidoNet especially in the eastern reagion of
Zone 2 would allow people from respective countries to communicate with the
"outside" world bypassing their governments' control over the internet.

Solutions such as Telegram would not fit into that idea though. :)
