Interesting..  Our Walmart brand fruit cups all are from China.

Exactly!  

The local farms around here typically hire fleets of Mexicans (probably a mix
of legals and illegals) to pick/package the crops.  

Even though China has children doing the work at slave wages, it is still
apparently less expensive.
