It should. We had a 84 El Dorado that had that digital display and when
going east down the San Bernardino mountain downgrade, the display would
show pretty good mileage (plus it had an estimated range indicator that
also reflected good mileage). When we got out on the desert floor, the
display would begin counting backwards until it displayed the mileage it
was getting having to pull the car with the AC on. It averaged 27mpg on a
trip to Phoenix...I often wondered what that car could do with a Plymouth
or Dodge Daytona front end instead of the brick wall it was pushing
thorugh the air.

On a trip to Illinois, I followed a friend up I-35 to De Moines,
IA. He was driving a 94 Nissan Maxima (V6-AOD) and we were in the Z28.
First gas stop we matched gallon for gallon, he used 12.1g and I used 12.3
gal...I credit the manual 6spd for that match.

Yeah but, can you live with a V6 in a car like that? What does the same
car with a V8 and the 8spd OD get?
