Yes, and I was a victim of that exact issue.  You would think that metal lines
running under the vehicle would be made of something that doesn't rust, but
that wasn't the case years ago.

My 1980 Malibu suffered a brake line "snap" do to a rusted out brake line.  I
was driving it down the road one day, slowing down for a red light and I heard
a pop and had very little brake power.  Had to hit the emergency brake.  I
puddle of fluid under the car where the rusted line snapped.  That was what
ended up making me decide to sell the Malibu.  

Someone in my neighborhood at the time gave me $300 for it as is.  That is the
same price I paid for it about 7 years before with a bad transmission.  We put
a 350 trans in it for $1200, and I got 7 years out of it.  Best investment I
have had to date with a vehicle.
