Somebody actually thought of that and got out the garden hose and began to
water down the floor (and gas). Little did that person realize that gas
will float on water.

That happened to my 72 Chevy pickup. The throttle shaft holes had worn out
enough that any gas that was left in the float bowl would run out of the
bowl (purcolate) and onto the throttle plates. If the engine wasn't
running, it would leak past the throttle shafts right on top of the
exhaust cross-over in the intake manifold.

Ummmm. Make sure that you check out the gas line fittings used in that
car. They're not the same fittings as those used in earlier versions.
These take a special gas line wrench to open the line. Just a heads up for
you in case you're not familiar with them.
