RW> Just where do they mount that blower motor relay. I find that the blower RW> motor relay in my Silverado is a little discolored but no melting to RW> speak of. The control switch is on the dash, but the actual relay and RW> motor speed resistor pak is under the dash next to the blower motor. It's RW> in a little vented box (next to the cabin filter housing) which I think RW> helps to keep it cool. Mine is 11 years old and no issues yet. It is mounted in a similar location on the Durango. Not far from the blower motor, up inside the vent area. Just a few bolts hold it up there. On the passenger side about a foot away from the blower motor. Remove two bolts and it comes down. My first connector was melted so bad, I couldn't remove it. I had to cut the wires and re-do everything with wire-nuts. The problem with the Durango is the wire harness melts/shorts and fries the blower motor relay. When that happens, just the high setting doesn't work. Everything else does work. Happened to me three times, until I replaced the wire harness and blower motor itself. There is a case where the blower motor can draw too much power and fry them over and over again. RW> Check the amperage load on that motor in each speed range. Too much of a RW> load will create a lot of heat that the relay and resister pak has to RW> handle. Yes, that is what causes many of the failures. The best bet when someone with a Durango has a problem like this, is replace everything. Wire harness, blower motor resister, and blower motor. - Mark --- WWIVToss v.1.50 * Origin: http://www.weather-station.org * Bel Air, MD -USA (1:261/1304.0) |
