I'm still here. Just caught up on the messages over here today.

After Roy's passing, I decided to do the moderating on the Automotive echo.
Sorry for the lack of posts recently. I don't do much with the vehicles in
the winter (or at least try not to).

The last auto project that I completed was in the fall. Our 2001 Durango
needed a new A/C compressor since the bearing were shot and it was noisy as
hell. Not when the clutch was engaged, but when it was just spinning on the
pully.

This was my first A/C job, so it was a learning experience. I also needed
lots of extra gear. Long story short after a few issues, I finally got it
completed properly. I replaced the A/C compressor and A/C accumulator. One
of the most important things is getting the proper gaskets for each
connection. RockAuto has a kit with all the gaskets, but you have to
experiment as to which one is the proper one for each connection.

I also ended up having to replace the ECM/computer on the truck. It was
randomly not starting (not even turning on the fuel pump, etc). Mostly would
happen when it was hot outside.

To experiement, I removed the computer and put it in the freezer for 30
minutes. Then re-connected it to the truck and it fired right up.

I then bought a reconditioned ECM, which they programmed to my VIN, installed
it and everything is good to go.

Now we just need to some snow to drive around in..

- Mark
