 Aviation HQ to All
Delta to resume one of the longest route
 04 Aug 21 14:45:06

MSGID: 2:292/854 12350a32
Delta Air Lines has resumed the longest route in its network, also one of the
longest scheduled services in the world. As of this week, the airline is
flying again between its home base Atlanta and Johannesburg, South Africa.

With a distance of 13,581 kilometers, Atlanta-Johannesburg was in eleventh
place of longest routes pre-corona. But because many ultra-longhaul flights
have still not been resumed due to travel restrictions, these Delta flights
are now temporarily in the top five.

The absolute number 1 remains the Singapore Airlines scheduled service between
Singapore and New York JFK, with a distance of 15,349 kilometers.

Delta now flies three times a week between Atlanta and Johannesburg. They will
use an Airbus A350-900 with room for 306 passengers on the route. That
aircraft is considerably more economical than the Boeing 777-200LR that was
used on the route pre-corona (and has now been phased out).

On its maiden flight, in the night from Sunday to Monday, it took the A350
just under 16 hours to cover the distance between Atlanta and Johannesburg.
