Boeing has delivered a 787 Dreamliner for the first time since May 2021. The
return of the aircraft to the market is a milestone for the company, which was
struggling with production problems with the aircraft. American Airlines took
delivery of the aircraft. This year, that company is counting on receiving a
total of nine aircraft of the relevant type.
 
Boeing previously stopped the delivery of the Dreamliners due to construction
errors. There were errors in the joining of parts of the hull of the aircraft
and the wings.
 
In the wake of two fatal accidents involving Boeing's 737 MAX aircraft in 2018
and 2019, the U.S. Aviation Authority promised to monitor Boeing more closely.
In addition, fewer responsibilities would be delegated to Boeing in the
certification of aircraft.
 
About 120 Dreamliners 787s are waiting for delivery at Boeing. The FAA said it
will "inspect every aircraft" before issuing a certificate. Normally, the FAA
delegates the authority to issue certificates to the manufacturer.
 
In January, Boeing announced a $3.5 billion charge due to 787 delivery delays
and customer concessions. In addition, the company also lost $1 billion in
abnormal manufacturing costs due to manufacturing defects and related repairs
and inspections.
