MSGID: 2:292/854 193c3c5c TZUTC: 0100 After extensive testing and certification, Lufthansa now has permission to fit more than twenty longhaul aircraft with an artificial shark skin. This very thin film mimics the skin structure of a shark, improving aerodynamics and reducing aircraft air resistance, kerosene consumption and therefore CO2 emissions. In the future, the film will be affixed to all twelve of SWISS's Boeing 777-300ERs and eleven of Lufthansa's Boeing 777F freighters. The first Boeing 777-300ER (registration: HB-JNH) from SWISS has been flying with this shark skin since October. In January 2023, the next 777s in Zurich and Frankfurt will be prepared to be fitted with the aerodynamic foil. Lufthansa claims that fitting a Boeing 777-300ER with the sharkskin could save around 400 tons of kerosene annually and reduce CO2 emissions by 1,200 tons. --- DB4 - 20220519 * Origin: AVIATION ECHO HQ (2:292/854) SEEN-BY: 1/123 15/0 80/1 90/1 105/81 106/201 120/340 123/131 129/305 SEEN-BY: 153/7715 221/1 226/30 229/110 111 112 113 114 307 317 400 SEEN-BY: 229/424 426 428 470 664 700 280/464 282/1038 292/854 8125 SEEN-BY: 301/1 317/3 320/219 322/757 335/364 342/200 396/45 460/58 SEEN-BY: 633/280 712/848 PATH: 292/854 229/426 |
