MSGID: 2:292/854 1a0b4420 TZUTC: 0200 Taiwanese EVA Air is the first Asian airline to equip aircraft with a "sharkskin" to reduce air resistance and therefore fuel consumption. The company is following the example of Lufthansa Cargo, SWISS and Austrian Airlines. EVA Air is applying the so-called AeroSHARK foil to nine Boeing 777Fs. The structure of the foil is reminiscent of shark skin, hence the name. The foil reduces air resistance, which means that one percent less fuel is required per flight. According to EVA Air, the "sharkskin" saves more than 2,500 tons of fuel per year and 7,800 tons less CO2 is released into the air. AeroSHARK was developed by Lufthansa Technik and BASF. Lufthansa Cargo was the first user, followed by SWISS and Austrian Airlines. --- DB4 - 20230201 * Origin: AVIATION ECHO HQ (2:292/854) SEEN-BY: 80/1 90/1 105/81 106/201 129/305 153/7715 221/1 226/30 227/114 SEEN-BY: 229/110 114 317 400 426 428 470 664 700 280/464 282/1038 SEEN-BY: 291/111 292/854 2226 8125 301/1 320/219 322/757 335/364 342/200 SEEN-BY: 396/45 460/58 633/280 712/848 5075/35 PATH: 292/854 229/426 |
