MSGID: 2:292/854 152a3a40 TZUTC: 0200 The U.S. Department of Justice has reached a preliminary settlement with Boeing in a fraud case stemming from two deadly crashes involving 737 MAX aircraft that killed 346 people. The agreement, which is subject to court approval, will allow Boeing to avoid criminal prosecution. Without the deal, the trial would begin on June 23. Boeing would then be on trial for misleading U.S. regulators about a key flight control system on the 737 MAX. Two of the planes crashed in 2018 and 2019 in Indonesia and Ethiopia. In total, Boeing will pay more than $1.1 billion, including fines and punitive damages. $445 million will be spent on improving the company's compliance, safety and quality programs. "We believe this resolution is the most equitable and practical outcome," the department said. --- DB4 - 20230201 * Origin: AVIATION ECHO HQ (2:292/854) SEEN-BY: 80/1 105/81 106/201 128/187 129/14 305 153/7715 154/110 221/1 SEEN-BY: 226/30 227/114 229/110 114 317 400 426 428 470 664 700 705 SEEN-BY: 280/464 291/111 292/854 2226 8125 301/1 320/219 322/757 335/364 SEEN-BY: 342/200 396/45 460/58 633/280 712/848 902/26 5001/100 5075/35 PATH: 292/854 229/426 |
