American Airlines this week flew its first Airbus A321XLR from its factory
airport near Hamburg to its home base in Dallas. The American airline is the
first operator of the Extra Long Range version of the A321neo in the US.
The XLR will soon enable American Airlines to operate long-distance flights
with the relatively small aircraft, which the airline seats 155 passengers.
American has divided the seats in the A321XLR into three cabins. Economy Class
seats 123 passengers, 12 enjoy more comfort in Premium Economy, and 20
travelers experience the most luxurious experience in Business Class.
Business Class features so-called "Flagship Suites," where passengers can
stretch out and enjoy plenty of privacy.
American's first A321XLR flight will depart from New York to Los Angeles on
December 18.
Â
The A321XLR is going to become the gamechanger of this generation of aircraft
enabling to fly from anywhere in the North American continent to anywhere on
that same continent. Its lower cost per passenger-mile above any other
aircraft of its category makes it much desired.
Its range also caters for transatlantic flights from airports in Europe to
almost anywhere in Canada and the United States with its rival Boeing showing
no comparable aircraft in that segment and that range after the 757 went out
of production.
