I can find no reports of the passengers sueing the Pilot directly..  They
filed suit against the company Alaska Airlines and Boeing.

I find it hard to believe that the Pilot would take Boeings words personally,
as "improperly maintained or misused," is a wildly wide open statement which
could implicate everyone from MX, Catering, Flight Attendants, ETC."

Gonna be a bit difficult to show how his reputation was personally damaged.. 
Sounds more like someone wants to retire early.
