XPost: ba.politics, dc.media, soc.penpals       XPost: alt.burningman       From: michael.obama@abc.com              A Florida tow truck owner has been accused of "predatory towing"       after he allegedly targeted a Gay Pride event.              Between June 5 and 9, Jason Combs allegedly towed more than 100       cars from a parking lot near the Doubletree by Hilton Orlando       hotel where the Gay Days event was taking place.              He's now been charged with almost 100 counts of grand theft auto       - and is currently being held on a $51,000 bond at the Orange       County Jail.              Cops claim the 44-year-old, whose ASAP towing business did not       have an up-to-date contract to tow any vehicles, hid his truck       around the corner waiting word from spotters.              Once the drivers were gone, he would then pounce - moving their       vehicles 10 miles away to his Belle Isle pound.              On returning to the lot after the event - where gay and lesbian       visitors are invited to wear red and meet at Walt Disney World's       Magic Kingdom - those targeted were forced to take a cab to the       lock-up.              There, they had to pay $165 for their car and a $40 gate fee.              Victims also claim that Combs' workers were "rude" and that the       felt "bullied" when they went to collect their vehicles -       because of their sexuality.              Gay Days organizer Chris Alexander-Manley said Combs should be       "prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law" if the allegations       were true, according the Orlando Sentinel.              Definitely it will take hearing more of the story," he added -       before accusing Combs of a hate crime.              Combs, however, claims he had a valid contract to operate his       scheme - and has denied accusations that he is homophobic.              "The fact that the [CRIMINAL]complaint said something about Gay       Days makes me wonder what's behind it," his attorney R. David de       Armas told the Sentinel.              "If someone shoplifted during Gay Days would the complaint       mention that it happened during Gay Days?" he added.              http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/fla-tow-truck-owner-       accused-predatory-towing-gay-days-festival-article-1.1882439                             --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
