XPost: ba.politics, dc.media, soc.penpals       XPost: alt.burningman       From: lynch@look.com              Another moment of truth emerges. Niggers are indeed niggers.              A Friday night lights photo op turned ugly when a North Carolina       high school cheerleading squad was overheard chanting the N-word       and flashing a hand sign representing the racial slur.              The Wake County Public School System in Raleigh, N.C., said it       disciplined Millbrook High School cheerleaders after parents       brought the incident to the attention of administrators, WTVD       reported.              Parents said they heard the girls chanting “N---a Nation” while       snapping Instagram photos and flashing what appeared to be gang-       style signs, interlocking two hands in the sign of an "N" during       a lull at a September football game.              "It's unacceptable," Millbrook High parent Nora Flynn told WTVD.       "It's not the diversity we teach in our household. It's not the       language we use. I would be very upset if that showed up on (my       daughter's) Twitter feed or whatever it is."              Duke Professor Mark Anthony Neal said this represents a       generational shift in how the word is used. The photo, obtained       by WTVD, shows the squad – which includes both white and black       cheerleaders – wearing ribbons in their hair smiling in their       blue and white finest.              "The way that so many of us understand the word, that context is       still there. We still understand it as hate language,” Neal told       WTVD. “We still understand it as language that represents       racism...but there's also all these other kinds of uses of the       word...particularly in pop culture.”              While the school said the issue was addressed, it did not reveal       what discipline was handed down.              jmolinet@nydailynews.com Follow on Twitter @jmolinet              http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/n-cheerleaders-chant-n-       word-team-photo-football-game-video-article-1.1992611                             --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
