   FERGUSON, Mo. — A Missouri state senator, arrested Monday night   
   on the streets here, was warned to stay on the sidewalk,   
   according to a St. Louis County Police spokesman.   
      
   At about 7 p.m. CT, Ferguson police asked county officers to   
   help them enforce an ordinance prohibiting people from standing   
   in the street. Commanders with county police spoke with   
   protesters about the ordinance and warned them that anyone in   
   violation would be arrested, Sgt. Brian Schellman said.   
      
   At the time, protesters said they understood the ordinance and   
   would comply, Schellman said.   
      
   About 90 minutes later, Schellman said two people — later   
   identified as state Sen. Jamilah Nasheed, a St. Louis Democrat;   
   and Jefonte Nelson — were seen walking and standing in the   
   street in front of the Ferguson Police Department. Officers   
   approached both of them and told them several times to get out   
   of the street or they would be arrested.   
      
   Nasheed and Nelson failed to move to the sidewalk and were   
   arrested for walking in a roadway where sidewalks are   
   accessible, the county police spokesman said.   
      
   The state senator, elected in 2012 after defeating the incumbent   
   in the Democratic primary, was taken to the St. Ann Police   
   Department about 7 miles away and released from jail shortly   
   before 11 a.m. Tuesday.   
      
   Mouthy nigger Nasheed called her arrest "symbolic" and denies it   
   was a publicity stunt.
