   A Canadian jury got to see inside the home of a former gay porn   
   actor who murdered his boyfriend before performing sex acts on   
   the dismembered corpse, authorities said.   
      
   Police showed crime-scene photographs Tuesday of Luka Magnotta's   
   blood-stained Montreal apartment: Red-splotches covered the   
   bathroom's sink, tub and floor, as well as the freezer,   
   refrigerator and bed.   
      
   "When we removed the mattress, there was a smell that was a   
   little bit rotten," Chantal Turmel, a forensic investigator for   
   the police force, told the courtroom.   
      
   Magnotta, 32, has admitted to killing Jun Lin, a 33-year-old   
   computer engineering student at Concordia University, in May   
   2012 but pleaded not guilty Monday to a slew of charges,   
   including first-degree murder.   
      
   During opening remarks, defense attorney Luc Leclair argued that   
   Magnotta's schizophrenia prevents him from being held criminally   
   responsible for his actions — even though he admits to "the   
   physical acts for each of the offenses."   
      
   "The issue of whether Mr. Magnotta is exempt from criminal   
   responsibility will be the issue you will have to deliberate   
   on," Leclair said.   
      
   The photographic evidence also included an angle grinder power   
   tool, an ice pick and bone-chilling messages written on a pink   
   pieces of paper.   
      
   "Roses are red. Violets are blue. The police will need dental   
   records to identify you. B---h," one note reads.   
      
   Magnotta, who was born in Scarborough, Ontario, is also accused   
   of mailing Lin's severed body parts to addresses in Ottawa and   
   Vancouver.   
      
   A package containing a severed foot was discovered at the   
   headquarters for the Conservative Party of Canada. On the same   
   day, another package with a hand was opened at a post office   
   addressed to the nation's Liberal Party.   
      
   Lin's torso was found in a suitcase at a garbage dump outside   
   Magnotta's apartment.   
      
   A police witness showed the court pictures of a skull found in a   
   park about a month after the killing.   
      
   Turmel, who took the incriminating photos from inside the   
   apartment, said she was dispatched to that address after a video   
   of a naked man being dismembered, sodomized and eaten was   
   broadcast online.   
      
   The Canadian government says Magnotta, who legally changed his   
   name from Eric Newman in 2006, plotted the killing for six   
   months before the death in 2012.   
      
   He was arrested in Berlin following an international manhunt.   
      
   Lin, originally from China, had been living in Canada since 2011.
