XPost: ba.politics, dc.media, soc.penpals       XPost: alt.burningman       From: miker@unm.edu              Another Democrat run state.              LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KRQE) - The former Santa Fe County Sheriff’s       deputy accused of murdering a fellow deputy is no longer behind       bars.              On Monday, Tai Chan’s defense attorney entered a “not guilty”       plea for Chan in Las Cruces for the first degree murder charge       of killing Jeremy Martin.              The Las Cruces District Judge set Chan’s bond at $600,000 cash       or property.              Chan and his family posted the property bond. As of Monday       night, he’s out on the conditions of release, awaiting trial.              “They’re the standard conditions that anyone charged with a       felony in New Mexico would have – maintain weekly contact with       an attorney, not violate any laws, stay within a geographical       area,” said his attorney, John Day.              The shooting happened three weeks ago at a hotel in Las Cruces.              Chan and 29-year-old Jeremy Martin had stopped in Las Cruces for       the night after transporting a prisoner to Arizona. Police say       the two got into a fight after drinking at a nearby bar.              Back at the hotel, it escalated, and that’s when they say Chan       opened fire on Martin, killing him. Police say he admitted to       the shooting afterwards.              No one has said what the argument was about.              Martin’s widow lives in Santa Fe.              Chan is required to stay in Dona Ana County, where the shooting       took place, but he’s not required to where a GPS device.              There’s no trial date yet for Chan, who was fired shortly after       the murder.              Comments:              BeenThere • 4 days ago       The Land of Enchantment. A poor state known to many Americans as       Taos, Santa Fe and Los Alamos (the nuclear laboratory); most       don’t know it has one of the highest drug rates in the country.       Drug use tends to lead to criminal behavior such as robbery,       assault, rape, burglary, and murder, says the National Council       on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. New Mexico’s violent       crime rate is fourth worst in the country; the burglary rate is       second worst. Former New Mexico legislator Dennis Kentigh wrote       in the Albuquerque Journal, “We dare not pretend this does not       have an effect on our economy or our overall quality of life,”       when speaking about the devastating crime rates in the state.        •Share ›       Avatar       just saying • 4 days ago       Cops killing Cops is there anybody that is safe any more ? Another one of the disparities in our       justice system that makes the public say............hmmmmm.       7 •Share ›       Avatar       lowBSdiet • 5 days ago       The authorities in Las Cruces (and/or the media) are putting a       lot of emphasis on the fact that these guys were drinking.              Drinking impairs judgement. Drinking creates a false sense of       bravery. But chasing a guy down the hall (especially when you       are a trained professional) goes way beyond alcohol impaired       judgement or bravery.              There has to be other factors that would make the man think that       was a viable thing to do.       5 •Share ›       Avatar       Unbelievable lowBSdiet • 5 days ago       Wow, a post from you that didn't make me nauseas. I HATE the       "alcohol" made me do it defence.       1 •Share ›       -       Avatar       lowBSdiet Unbelievable • 5 days ago       You're not going to like what I am thinking.              I am thinking that the "above reproach" "untouchable" cultural       attitude that is prevalent in law enforcement culture combines       with a little mental health failure resulting in these       irrational violent outbursts.              The attitude is dangerous with out mental health breakdown. But       with it even the cops are at risk.       1 •Share ›       Avatar       lowBSdiet Unbelievable • 5 days ago       You are my number one fan. :-)       1 •Share ›       Avatar       lowBSdiet • 5 days ago       Amazing how often these "beyond reproach" people shoot each       other.       1 •Share ›       Avatar       concerned • 5 days ago       BS!!!!!!!!!!!! Felony charges get hit with pre-trial crap, meet       with probation/parole weekly/daily, drug alcohol testing, fees,       ankle bracelets, house arrest. Yeah right. Special treatment for       a cop murderer?       3 •Share ›       Avatar       Unbelievable concerned • 5 days ago       That's not necessarily true, many first time offenders or "non       violent" offenders aren't required to have a bracelet. However,       with the severity and obviously violent nature of this crime, he       should be treated like any other felon would be.              http://krqe.com/2014/11/17/accused-killer-former-deputy-tai-chan-       bonded-out-of-jail/                             --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
