   NORTH BRADDOCK, Pa. —Allegheny County homicide detectives were   
   investigating after a homeowner fatally shot a man who was   
   allegedly stealing the aluminum down spouts from his house.   
      
   County detectives say North Braddock police were called to the   
   1500 block of Grandview Avenue around 1:10 a.m. Tuesday and   
   found a wounded man who died at the scene.   
      
   The medical examiner identified the man as Alan Lamont White,   
   44, of Wilkinsburg, and said he suffered a gunshot wound to the   
   chest.   
      
   County police Lt. Andrew Schurman says the homeowner called 911   
   and confronted the theft suspect with a gun.   
      
   "At this stage, it appears the prowler did not flee but advanced   
   on the 62-year-old homeowner. The homeowner shot at the   
   prowler," Schurman said.   
      
   Neighbors were quick to defend the character of the homeowner.   
      
   "He's a good guy. If you got a flat tire, he'll come out in the   
   cold and help you change it. He takes care of the animals. He   
   feeds hamburgers to my dogs. I mean, he looks out for   
   everybody," neighbor Clayton Coleman said.   
      
   A few streets away, a home on Ridge Avenue was targeted by a   
   copper thief over the weekend. Dawn Smith said her down spouts   
   were missing and she now has water running in her basement.   
      
   An autopsy is scheduled for the shooting victim. He has not been   
   identified yet.   
      
   Detectives planned to consult with the district attorney to   
   determine whether the homeowner will be criminally charged.
