XPost: alt.slack, alt.society.labor-unions, alt.sodomites.barack-obama       XPost: alt.journalism.newspapers       From: jtownsle@butler.edu              IMPERIAL, Pa. —Parents in one Allegheny County school district       are furious over a “kindness workshop” held at a middle school       in which eight graders were asked deeply personal questions in       front of their classmates, including whether they are homosexual       and if their parents have been to jail.              The workshop was held Wednesday at West Allegheny Middle School       in Imperial. Lauralee Nuckels’ daughter took part in the       exercise and told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 the questions       crossed the line.              “Are you, or do you know anyone, that is gay, bisexual,       transgender, or lesbian? Do either one of your parents have a       drug or alcohol problem?” Nuckels said. “This is the one that       throws me over the edge. Do you have financial issues at home?       Do your parents ever worry about providing you with the       essentials?”              Other questions focused on religion, disabilities, and       immigration.              Nuckels said her daughter was so disturbed by the questions that       she did not want to return to school the next day.              Parents also said some students were told to put on a mask,       stand in the middle of a circle of students, and reveal things       about themselves.              “That’s a violation, a huge violation,” said Pamela Brosovic,       whose nephew was in the workshop. “That’s very personal stuff.       Eighth graders have a hard time right now. It’s a crazy world.       They get bullied in school. They get bullied on social media.”              The school district said the goal of the workshop was to reduce       bullying, but many parents believe it instead gave fuel to       bullies.              “Now these kids who bully people on a regular basis just got a       whole lot more information to do it with,” Nuckels said.              The school district did send a letter to parents before the       workshop, but many said it did not explain how deeply the       questions would probe.              West Allegheny superintendent Jerri Lippert would not speak on       camera about the parents’ concern but sent Pittsburgh’s Action       News 4 an emailed statement:              West Allegheny Middle School conducted an interactive kindness       workshop for eighth grade students that promoted peer acceptance       to proactively address issues of bullying amongst students in       school and on social media related to body image, race,       religion, and sexual orientation. Following each workshop, our       facilitators reviewed student feedback and took appropriate       actions by altering the remaining sessions. The intent of the       workshop was to build a positive school culture and was not       intended to offend any students.              This activity was conducted, because we are advocating that all       of our students be educated in a safe and nurturing environment,       free of judgment, prejudice and bias, so they may learn and grow       to their fullest potential. We appreciate feedback from       students, parents and the West Allegheny community and take this       feedback seriously as we strengthen our bullying prevention       programs.              West Allegheny School District fully supports the decision to       take a stand against the growing epidemic of student bullying       and the administrators and supports the teachers whose       intentions were to interrupt systems of discrimination.              Parents also said a meeting had been scheduled with the       superintendent to talk about their concerns on Tuesday at 5:30       p.m.              You lying brother fuckers are trying to indoctrinate children       with pro-faggot idealism.              http://www.wtae.com/news/parents-outraged-at-workshop-asking-8th-       graders-if-theyre-gay-if-parents-are-in-jail/37460438                      --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
