   Two Arizona women are facing murder charges in connection to the   
   death of a 9-year-old girl following an untreated hair lice   
   infestation.   
      
   Sandra Kraykovich, 38, the child's mother, and Elizabeth   
   Kraykovich, 64, the child's grandmother, have been charged with   
   first-degree murder after an autopsy report revealed last month   
   that the child had died from "anemia from untreated lice   
   infestation with malnutrition as a contributing factor,"   
   according to a local outlet.   
      
   Both women in March were initially charged with felony child   
   abuse of the 9-year-old's two siblings, ages 11 and 13, both of   
   whom were allegedly suffering from severe lice infestations as   
   well.   
      
   Authorities responded to a report of an unresponsive child at   
   the Kraykovich home in Tucson on March 22. The 9-year-old, who   
   has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene, with   
   first responders noting that a "large amount of bugs began to   
   cover her face," according to police records obtained by KOLD.   
      
   Text messages found on the women's phones showed that they   
   discussed the child's condition and ultimately decided against   
   seeking medical treatment, reports said. Sandra Kraykovich told   
   her boyfriend on March 15 that her daughter needed to go to the   
   hospital.   
      
   "OMG babe. Listen I’m in my room and my mom called me.   
   [Redacted] was asking if I could check on her to make sure she   
   isn’t dying,” she reportedly wrote to her boyfriend on March 21.   
      
   The mother told investigators that she believed her daughter   
   "would probably still be alive" if she had sought medical care,   
   according to an affidavit.   
      
   Sandra Kraykovich is being held at Pima County Adult Detention   
   Center on a $55,000 bond as of Tuesday, according to inmate   
   records. Records for Elizabeth Kraykovich were not available.
