The "C" might stand for Columbia, as in CBS.

The CW was the result of the merger of the WB Network (Warner) and UPN
(United Paramount).  Paramount is aligned with CBS and, by the time they
merged, CBS/Paramount had bought out United.  Both networks were founded in
the mid-1990's and merged sometime in the mid-2000's.

CBS/Paramount and Warner are still joint owners, which is why some shows
that started on CBS got migrated to CW when they had a following but were
not successful enough for the "top" network.  Now I think they get migrated
to streaming.
