You could try one of two things:

Try running bcfg4 with sudo, ie: "sudo ./bcfg4 0" (just as a test). If this
works, then below would most likely apply.

Try copying the bbbs directory to /home/cadams and running these there without
sudo and as owner cadams (again as a test). You may not be able to own/execute
with other users besides root in your /var directory. In Jeff's post, he
mentioned having the archive extracted in /var/opt, but he's actually
executing these files from /home/bbbs in which everything there is owned by
bbbs:bbbs, if I read correctly.
