there's no problem with doing that at all... until someone picks up both feeds
and creates a gate-loop as was apparently done... some of these are by
accident while others are done on purpose...

newscan? if it is what i think it is, it is also irrelevent to this particular
problem because the dupes were showing up in the same area... in other words,
there was not two different areas with the same traffic... it was one area (on
the fidonet side) with duplicated traffic ;)
