i beg to differ... on "properly" configured firewalls, it can, will, and does
work... the question is who's definition of "proper" is correct... those where
this capability works or those where this capability is strictly forbidden...

in any case, all my systems use my external (dynamic) WAN address(es) to
access my public services... however, newer versions of my firewall break this
and force the use of a split domain which then fraks numerous of my services
which are based on the external WAN IP and can't work with my internal RFC1918
addresses at the same time :/
