You could also create a VM using a virtualizer like VirtualBox, etc., then
you'd have the best of both worlds.

Simple.  Market share.  Compared to Windows and OS X, Linus is a tiny
percentage, about 4.5% worldwide.

Just because Linux distros are free, for the most part, that doesn't mean
Linux programs have to be, in fact, there are a number of commercial programs
you gotta pay for, but they are in the minority.
