This topic comes up every few years or so and sometimes ends up a wildly silly debate on the secure-factor... for a technology never designed for it. If someone wants to jump through hoops to get SSL working for a BBS thats fine, but no caller I've ever encountered in 30+ years ever cared about the encryption of the connection.
