XPost: bc.politics, van.general, vic.general              Dateline: Tuesday, May 25, 2010 - by Bill Tieleman              Liberals fall behind by twelve percentage points.                     Another poll means more bad news for the beleaguered BC Liberals. The Mustel       Group's       latest poll puts the New Democrats at 44 percent — a significant 12 percentage       points       ahead of Premier Gordon Campbell's BC Liberals at 32 percent, with the Green       Party at 13       percent and the surging BC Conservative Party at 7 percent.       The poll also shows that 73 percent of respondents have either already signed       the Fight       HST citizens initiative petition to oppose the Harmonized Sales Tax or intend       to sign it.              Mustel also says that Campbell's disapproval rating is at 61 percent, steadily       climbing       from a low of 37 percent in January 2009.              Mustel says 29 percent of those polled have signed the petition, while 44       percent plan to       sign before the July 5 deadline, if given the opportunity.              And "Taxes/HST" is the top issue for British Columbians, the poll indicates.              Mustel also says that Campbell's disapproval rating is at 61 percent, steadily       climbing       from a low of 37 percent in January 2009.              But while the BC Liberals have dropped 14 percent since the May 2009 election,       the NDP,       according to Mustel, have not gained substantially. The NDP vote is up 2       percent over its       42 percent actual vote in the election, while both the BC Conservatives and       the Green       Party have benefited more from the BC Liberals' fall. Each party is up 5       percent from the       election results.                      ******************************       Bill Tieleman, president of West Star Communications, is one of BC's best       known political       commentators and communicators.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
