XPost: bc.politics, van.general              The Campbell government is STILL trying to make money to cover Olympic cost       overruns. Was       in London Drugs and they're selling the furry little 'mascot figures' of the       Olympic games       for a mere $14.              And remember all those 'free' tickets that the Campbell government gave away       to those who       could most afford to pay their way?       This lady said it best:       ____________________________              Olympic ticket spending wasteful              Published: May 17, 2010 10:00 AM              To the Editor,              It’s an ironic situation when on page three of the May 11 paper you find a       headline       Teachers worry about lost jobs and the proposed solutions to a budget cut of       $2.8 million       and on page six a headline Government spends millions on tickets for the       Olympic games –       $2.7 million is the figure quoted.              That money was spent to assist people who were more than financially capable       of the       purchase of those tickets and again we see money taken from areas like       education and       re-directed to provide entertainment for those with more than ample means to       procure their       own tickets.              I think it’s fair to say that most people would not handle their own home       finances the way       in which the provincial government handles our finances.              The analogy here would be that of spending your mortgage payments for the next       year on       popcorn, something the premier seems to have no issues with as long as he is       getting a       raise.              My suggestion would be to research a method of collection on the amount of       $2.7 million       from those who benefited from the tickets and events and re-allocate it to the       rightful       place, the education of our children – why should they have to tighten their       belts to feed       the fat cats?              Charlene H.       Nanoose Bay              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
