XPost: bc.politics, van.general, vic.general       From: 40%Çonned@cda.ca              Any chance that she already knows that the HST is 'going down' and that she       has to put       "business" types on notice of changes to how they will be collecting revised       taxes at the cash       register? Tomorrow should be announcement day for the HST referendum -       UNprivate and UNsecure       as it was. Seems they're delaying it to 'the end of the week sometime'.       Gotta give Christy Clark time to talk with all her supporters . . . .              ________________________       Delta OptimistAugust 19, 2011              Premier Clark to visit Delta Monday              Premier Christy Clark is scheduled to visit Delta Monday for a pair of       closed-door meetings with       business and community representatives.              The Liberal premier will first pay a visit to North Delta before heading to       Ladner for an       afternoon meeting at the Delta Town & Country Inn.              [. . . ]              No comment from Falcon              Finance Minister Kevin Falcon was on vacation Friday and officials in the       ministry said he won't       be available to discuss future government moves with regards to the HST until       the vote results       are released.              Instead, the ministry released a written statement attributed to Falcon, which       said:              "We will not be speculating about specific implications regarding the upcoming       referendum       result.              "Once the decision has been announced by Elections BC, we will speak directly       to British       Columbians about our plan to move forward."              Deficit impacts       The net impact of a dropped HST would be an immediate increase in next year's       projected budget       deficit to $2.56 billion from $925 million.              That would inevitably mean cuts to government programs and a prolonged period       of provincial       deficits.              The deficit increase includes the $1.6 billion the province would have to       repay Ottawa for       switching to the HST and $42 million in debt interest costs.              _______________________________________              A $2.56 Billion deficit under the BC 'Liberals/Cons' wouldn't bode well for       them going into a       provincial election, would it?                            *******************************************************       "We CAN look after each other better than we do today.       We CAN have a fiscally responsible government.       We CAN have a strong economy; greater equality; a clean environment.       We CAN be a force for peace in the world." - Jack Layton              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
