   But a basin of silt can actually act like a lens   
   and amplify the surface waves from the earthquake   
   and then if those surface waves have frequencies   
   which match the resonant frequencies of skyscrapers   
   then major damage can occur. I think something   
   like that happened in Mexico City years ago?
