XPost: can.politics, van.general, alt.true-crime       From: gregpcarr@yahoo.ca              A North Vancouver truck driver faces at least 10 years in prison after       being convicted of conspiracy to distribute marijuana in the U.S.              According to U.S. attorney Jenny Durkan, James Postlethwaite, 60, was       part of a criminal group related to the Hells Angels that smuggled       marijuana into the U.S. and returned to Canada with cocaine.              Investigators discovered that Postlethwaite had a secret compartment       that could hold up to 270 kilograms of pot for his southbound trips.       It could be refilled with cocaine for his northbound return trips.       Police believe he made 95 crossings before he was caught.              Because of the large quantity of drugs, U.S. laws mandate a minimum       sentence of 10 years in prison. "The hidden compartment had a very       elaborate access system using a separate battery to access a void in       the floor of the trailer," Durkan said in announcing the conviction       after a trial in Seattle.              "Testimony in the trial revealed that the marijuana belonged to the       Hells Angels organization in B.C."              Postlethwaite is the third Canadian convicted in connection with the       smuggling ring.              Earlier, Mario Joseph Fenianos was handed a 13-year prison term, and       Michael William Dubois was sentenced to 10 years in prison.              A multi-departmental investigation involving the Drug Enforcement       Agency in Washington, California, Nevada, Illinois and New Jersey       seized more than $2 million in cash, along with 1,000 kg of marijuana       and 136 kg of cocaine, as part of its probe.              iaustin@theprovince.com twitter.com/ianaustin007              Š Copyright (c) The Province                     Read more:       http://www.theprovince.com/news/North+trucker+smuggled+faces+yea       s+jail/7587402/story.html#ixzz2CuK5XH9f              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
