A 35-year-old man has been arrested in the Netherlands in relation to
Canadian teen Amanda Todd's cyberbullying and suicide.

The unidentified man is charged with "extortion via webcam" of a
15-year-old girl from B.C., reported Omroep Brabant and BN De Stem.

The Dutch embassy confirmed the suspect was arrested in Oisterwijk in
January. He appeared in court for the first time on Wednesday, said CBC
   News.

Todd killed herself in 2012 in Port Coquitlam, B.C. after years of
online bullying. A month before her death, she posted a YouTube video
chronicling how she exposed herself via webcam, and those images were
saved by someone online, and subsequently used to stalk and harass her.

The suspect is a transient, unmarried Dutch national of Turkish descent,
reported CBC. Dutch journalist Mathijs Pennings said the man is accused
of persuading other Dutch, English and American victims — underaged
girls as well as older men — to perform sexual acts on their webcams.

The suspect, who faces nine charges against at least 10 victims, remains
in custody, his lawyer Christian Van Dijk told CKNW.

Van Dijk said police seized a computer from a home his client rented,
but the lawyer claimed it would be easy for someone to break into the
   home, reported BN De Stem.

Carol Todd, Amanda's mother, told The Huffington Post B.C. that she's
waiting to speak with the RCMP before she makes any comment.

The teen's haunting video has attracted more than nine million views,
and sparked international debate on cyberbullying:
