While Rogers isn’t exactly       hiding it, the truth of the matter is that depending on where you live, there       are certain games you won’t be able to see. All of which is bound to confuse       or tick off supporters of certain teams.              Yes, we’re talking about the ‘B’ word — as in blackouts. A       four-letter word,       so to speak, if there ever was one for hockey fans in Canada (and we have no       doubt it leads to the uttering of certain four-letter words we can’t print       here).              So what can you see (or not see) where you live? Here’s a bit of a primer to       explain it all:              Q: What games are available on Rogers NHL GameCentre Live?              While it’s been suggested that the service makes every league game available       to       everyone in Canada, it’s not quite that all-inclusive.       But basically, if the game is on Sportsnet somewhere in Canada (nationally or       regionally), chances are you’ll be able to see it. Credit Rogers with doing       its best to lift as many blackouts as possible, but there are some battles it       simply could not win.              Q: Are there any special requirements to watch those games?              In addition to signing up for GameCentre Live, you also need a TV subscription       to Sportsnet.       This is a process known as ‘authentication’ and it launches Jan. 1 for all       GCL       customers. In other words, ‘cord cutters’ need not apply.              Q: Are there any exceptions to all of this?              Aren’t there always? The increased presence of TSN on the regional front has       created a different situation for fans who live in the Winnipeg Jets, Ottawa       Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs territories.       Rogers doesn’t have streaming rights to TSN regional telecasts in those       areas.        So that means no TSN Jets games on GameCentre Live in Winnipeg and no TSN       Sens games in Ottawa.       The same also applies in southern Ontario for the 26 Leafs games that TSN will       air there regionally.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
