From: brewnoser2@gmail.com              Look at the sequence of events:              May 26, 2015:       BREAKING NEWS: After vote recount, Dr. Brian Day and Dr. Alan Ruddiman tied       for Doctors of B.C. election; 1st-ever run-off vote announced              HERE'S MY ORIGINAL STORY ABOUT THE ELECTION:              BY PAMELA FAYERMAN              In a stunning election decided by just a single vote,        ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^       private medicine pioneer Dr. Brian Day got the nod Tuesday as the 2015/15       president-elect of Doctors of BC.              Dr. Alan Ruddiman, a rural family physician in Oliver, garnered just one vote       less - 945 - and Dr. Lloyd Oppel, an emergency medicine physician at the       University of BC Hospital, got 285 votes.              Day will become president of the doctors' advocacy organization in 2016/17.        He will succeed Dr. Charles Webb, a Vancouver family doctor, who will take       over as president of the organization on June 6 when Dr. Bill Cavers finishes       his one year term.              Day entered the contest after the other two contenders had already declared       their candidacies and immediately stirred things up telling doctors that a       vote for him was a vote for patient choice and competition in health care.              He said votes for him would be about challenging the status quo in which the       BC government forbids doctors from billing patients for care provided in the       private sector.              Day, an orthopaedic surgeon and co-owner of the Cambie Surgery Centre, is a       former president (2007/2008) of the Canadian Medical Association.               Day is suing the BC government over the private medicine issue. But his       six-year old lawsuit has been twice delayed and is not scheduled in the BC       Supreme Court until the end of the year, at the earliest.              The fact that the case is expected to last seven months means Day will be       leading the organization at the very same time that he's in court against the       government - a scenario which could present problems since Doctors of BC       interacts with government        frequently. In his last post on Twitter, just before the results were       announced, the new-to-Twitter Day declared: "The government does not own our       bodies."              Day's lawsuit against the government contends that patients have a       constitutional right to access private clinics if their health is suffering       because they are waiting too long for care in the public health system.       [----]       ____________________________       JUNE 1:              UPDATE TO READERS: ALLAN SECKEL, CEO OF DOCTORS OF BC, HAS RELEASED THIS       MESSAGE:               A verification of the results in the vote for President-Elect has been       completed.               As part of the process, Everyone Counts Canada found - independently of       anyone at the Doctors of BC - that one vote that ought to have been counted,       was in fact not counted.               With that vote included, the result is a tie between Dr Brian Day and Dr       Alan Ruddiman.               As Chief Electoral officer, it is my responsibility to ensure an       impartial outcome and a fair process. I have concluded that a run-off vote       will be held between the two candidates. It will start June 5th and conclude       June 18th. All members in        good standing who are eligible to vote under the bylaws will be eligible to       vote in the runoff. "       ___________________________       Jun 19 2015 - 09:01              2015-2016 President-Elect Runoff Election Results              News              Statement from Allan Seckel, QC       Chief Electoral Officer and CEO, Doctors of BC              "Voting in the Doctors of BC President-Elect run-off election concluded at       midnight on June 18th. Dr Alan Ruddiman was elected into the position with a       total of 3,065 votes. Dr Brian Day received a total of 2,462 votes.       ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^       ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^       ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^              Approximately 11,000 members were eligible to vote. A total of 5,527 votes       were cast representing approximately 50% of the Doctors of BC membership       eligible to vote.              Doctors of BC thanks both candidates for their desire to lead our Association,       and for their dedication to the profession."       ______________________________________              Wow.
