   Canada will announce the elimination of entrance visas for   
   Mexicans at the end of the month, during President Enrique Peña   
   Nieto visit to the country, Canadian International Trade   
   Minister Chrystia Freeland told EFE.   
      
   But Freeland also related the elimination of visas to "Mexican   
   support" in trade matters.   
      
   "Part of our electoral platform during the last election was to   
   talk about the importance of close relations with Mexico, and   
   more specifically, to deal with the visa problem," Freeland said   
   in a statement following an event in Toronto organized by the   
   Canadian Council for the Americas, or CCA, to discuss the   
   Pacific Alliance.   
      
   When the Mexican president visits Canada next June 29 for the   
   North American Leaders' Summit, the heads of government will   
   "also deal with other bilateral problems that we're working on   
   very closely like the matter of the beef trade," the minister   
   said.   
      
   The previous Canadian government of Conservative Prime Minister   
   Stephen Harper unexpectedly imposed in 2009 the requirement of a   
   visa to allow Mexican citizens to enter the country, which led   
   to somewhat tense relations between the two countries.   
      
   The current government of Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau   
   has announced its commitment to eliminating the need for visas,   
   but up to now the exact date when the measure will take effect   
   has not been stated.   
      
   The Canadian minister seemed to indicate that the elimination of   
   the entrance visa will occur, in all probability, during the   
   summit to be attended by Trudeau, Peña Nieto and U.S. President   
   Barack Obama.
