   ORANGE – A former Long Beach detective was arrested Monday by   
   Orange County sheriff’s deputies in connection with an assault   
   with a deadly weapon investigation, authorities said.   
      
   Toby Benskin, 34, was arrested in Orange and booked into the   
   Orange County Jail in lieu of $200,000 bail, Long Beach police   
   said in a statement.   
      
   He was arrested in Orange County Family Court, said sheriff’s   
   Lt. Mark Stichter.   
      
   He has been charged by the Los Angeles County District   
   Attorney’s Office with nine felony counts, including burglary,   
   assault with a firearm, criminal threats, and false imprisonment.   
      
   Benskin, a 14-year employee of the Long Beach Police Department   
   and once in the agency’s Investigation Bureau, is suspected of   
   being involved in an off-duty domestic-violence situation in   
   Long Beach on Oct. 27, 2015, police said.   
      
   “When we take our oath of office, we assume a tremendous   
   responsibility, which includes upholding the values and   
   maintaining the integrity of our Police Department and   
   profession,” Long Beach Police Chief Robert Luna said in a   
   statement. “When an officer betrays the public trust we have   
   worked so hard to cultivate, they must be held accountable.”   
      
   Prosecutors accused Benskin of assaulting and threatening his   
   estranged wife’s boyfriend and dragging her from a residence.   
   Benskin was fired from the Long Beach Police Department in June.
