XPost: school.general, sac.general, alt.politics.democrats       XPost: alt.fan.rush-limbaugh       From: losers@dnc.org              A former Anderson New Technology High School teacher arrested       Wednesday for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship       with a 17-year-old student was formally charged Friday with 18       felony sex crimes.              Daniel James Schafer pleaded not guilty to the charges in Shasta       County Superior Court during his afternoon arraignment and saw       his bail raised to $300,000 from $100,000.              The Shasta County District Attorney's Office filed a criminal       case against the 35-year-old Schafer earlier in the day.              The 18-count criminal complaint includes 11 felony counts of       unlawful sexual intercourse and other sex-related charges.              According to a two-page Anderson Police case summary filed in       court, the alleged sexual relationship came to light on Sept. 7.              That's when, the report said, school resource officer Robert       Richardson was contacted by a district employee saying a male       teacher at Anderson New Technology High was having an affair       with a female student.              According to the police report, the girl told her school       counselor she had been having a sexual relationship with       Schafer, who was her teacher, over this year's summer school       break.              Authorities say the alleged conduct, which started when the girl       was 16, occurred at Schafer's home, on car trips and at the       school.              Anderson Union High School District Superintendent Tim Azevedo       interviewed Schafer, who reportedly admitted to having the       affair, the police report said.              Schafer submitted a letter of resignation to Azevedo on Sept. 7.              Police said further investigation into the case revealed the       teen provided her counselor a hand-written list of dates and       times when she and Schafer had sex.              Schafer was arrested after police officers went to his Redding       home to talk to him, the police report said.              "After he opened the front door, I introduced myself to him and       asked him if he knew why we were here," an officer wrote in the       report. "Yes, I do," he replied.              Taken to the Anderson Police Department for questioning, Schafer       declined to answer questions about the alleged affair and asked       for an attorney, the report said.              He was arrested, taken to Shasta County Jail and booked into       custody, it said.              Schafer, who was ordered Friday to have no contact with the       teenager, is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on Sept. 27       to determine whether sufficient evidence exists to have him       ordered to stand trial on the charges.              A prosecutor said Schafer is facing more than 10 years in prison       if convicted at trial.              https://www.redding.com/story/news/local/2018/09/14/former-       anderson-new-tech-teacher-charged-18-felony-sex-       crimes/1301728002/                      --- SoupGate-DOS v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
