   A 38-year-old preschool teacher at Cal State Long Beach was   
   arrested over the weekend on suspicion of secretly recording   
   someone in a restroom on campus, officials said.   
      
   Ernesto Jason Higuera of Long Beach was taken into custody about   
   1:20 p.m. Saturday, less than an hour after a high school   
   student on campus for an ethnic studies conference noticed   
   “suspicious behavior” in a men’s restroom in the College of   
   Business, according to a statement from university spokeswoman   
   Terri Carbaugh and jail records.   
      
   “Campus police also took measures to ensure no other students   
   attending the conference had come into contact with the suspect,   
   and the victim’s family was notified of the incident,” she said.   
      
   It was unclear what exactly the student observed.   
      
   Higuera was immediately placed on leave from his job as a   
   preschool teacher at the Isabel Patterson Child Development   
   Center, which offers childcare to CSULB students, Carbaugh said.   
   He was hired in August.   
      
   In an email to parents, the center’s director, AlecSandria   
   Colchico, said Higuera’s arrest was unrelated to his work.   
      
   “Upon his hire, this individual passed the required California   
   Department of Justice and FBI fingerprint and criminal-   
   background checks,” she wrote. “These checks produced no   
   evidence of a previous criminal record. I apologize if this   
   causes concern. We are planning to hold a meeting as soon as we   
   have more information to share.”   
      
   Higuera was booked on suspicion of misdemeanor invasion of   
   privacy by videotaping or photographing and lewd conduct in a   
   public restroom, according to an arrest log. Jail records show   
   he was released Saturday night after posting $25,000 bond.   
      
   Higuera did not immediately return a phone call from a reporter.
