A bit of history on this Harper government appendage . . .

   - Anders was the sole parliamentarian to vote against making Nelson
Mandela an honorary citizen of Canada in 2001, which prevented the act
from passing unanimously. He defended his actions by stating that
Mandela was a communist and a terrorist, causing widespread criticism.

   - In December 2005, Anders used public funds to send pamphlets to
residents in Richmond, B.C., a constituency far removed from his own.
The leaflets caused bewilderment for including a survey question about
"homosexual sex marriage" in a flyer otherwise addressing crime and
   crystal meth abuse.

   - Anders has been a consistent critic of the human rights record of the
People's Republic of China. He has described the PRC as "the worst
human-rights abuser in the world," and compared the 2008 Beijing
Olympics to the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

   - In 2010, in a card supporting Canadian troops, Anders wrote: "When in
   doubt, pull the trigger".

   - In February 2010, nineteen members of Anders' Calgary West riding
association resigned en masse, citing interference from the Conservative
   Party.
The party's national council intervened, saying it had already declared
Anders as the candidate for the next federal election

   - In March 2012, Anders was removed from the Veterans Affairs Committee
following controversial comments in response to arriving late, texting,
and falling asleep at a committee meeting (including calling his
accusers NDP hacks who praise Vladimir Putin).

   - In September and October 2012, fellow Conservative Party members
disassociated themselves from Anders' belief that New Democratic Party
leader Thomas Mulcair "Hastened the death" of former NDP leader Jack
Layton by encouraging an election while being in questionable health.

And today he's calling for military assault on Russia over their Ukraine

Military action against Russia, MP Rob Anders says
Calgary MP says President Vladimir Putin needs to be sent a very strong
message over his actions in Ukraine

Calgary Conservative MP Rob Anders says the world needs to consider
using force to stop Russian President Vladimir Putin’s aggression
   against Ukraine.
   [...]
Anders said Putin needs to be sent a very strong message.

“And I also agree with the idea that military action should not be ruled
out because I think for somebody who is a thug like Putin, it's what he
   understands," Anders said.

“And I think that message is not just words. I would very much like to
see the U.S. Fifth Fleet move into the Black Sea and the George W. Bush
aircraft carrier move into the eastern Mediterranean,” he said.

Another Calgary MP who attended the rally backed away from Anders’ comment.

“Our government's position, as well as the position of the G7, is we
want to see a peaceful resolution to this situation,” Michelle Rempel said.

ANY party should be able to unseat this asshole in Calgary West in the
   next election.

Calgary Conservative MP Rob Anders says the world needs to consider
using force to stop Russian President Vladimir Putin’s aggression
   against Ukraine.

Anders was among about 60 people who gathered outside Calgary City Hall
on Sunday to denounce the results of a so-called referendum in Ukraine's
Crimean Peninsula where residents voted overwhelmingly to break away
   from Ukraine to join Russia.
