XPost: can.politics, ab.politics       From: "@nyet.ca              Shit. The police obviously know something that they've not revealed to       the media. And they've re-arrested the guy who they termed 'a person of       interest'.       These multiple murders of family members are probably the worst kind of       murders. And likely over an amount of money that most would consider minor.       What a loss.       ______________________________________________       Updated CBC News Posted: Jul 14, 2014                     Nathan O'Brien, grandparents were murdered, Calgary police say              Ambert Alert lifted, but bodies of 5-year-old boy, grandparents Alvin       and Kathy Liknes not found                     Calgary police are planning to lay murder charges in the case of a       missing Calgary couple and their grandson.              Nathan O'Brien, 5, and his grandparents Alvin and Kathy Liknes have been       missing since June 29.              Calgary police announced this morning that the Amber Alert issued after       their disappearance has been discontinued.                     Douglas Garland              Douglas Garland is back in police custody after being released on bail       on Friday. Calgary police call him a 'person of interest' in the case of       a missing Calgary boy and his grandparents. He faces charges unrelated       to the disappearance. (Calgary Herald)              Police Chief Rick Hanson indicated that police believe the trio of       family members are dead even though their bodies have not been found.              He said first-degree murder charges will be laid in the deaths of the       grandparents, and a second-degree murder charge will be laid in the       death of five-year-old Nathan.              "We are putting a very complex case before the courts," said Hanson,       adding police are very confident with the evidence.              "There is no single piece of evidence that is what people would like to       think is the smoking gun."              Police said they will not name the suspect in custody until charges are       laid, but CBC learned earlier today that Douglas Garland — who had       previously been named as a person of interest in the disappearance of       the three family members — is back in police custody.              Sources close to the investigation say Garland was taken into police       custody in connection with the missing persons case this morning.              The 54-year-old was staying at a motel in Airdrie, just north of       Calgary, after being released on bail on unrelated charges on Friday.       'Difficult to maintain optimism'              Calgary Police Chief Rick Hanson says first- and second-degree murder       charges are being filed in connection with the disappearance of Nathan       O'Brien and his grandparents at a news conference in Calgary, Alta.,       on July 14.              Hanson said that police offer their condolences to the family.              "There's always a glimmer of hope and unfortunately with the laying of       the charges we've taken that away from the family," said Hanson.       "They're devastated."              Police said after multiple searches they have ended their investigation       at the Parkhill home where the three Calgary family members were last seen.              The home belongs to Kathy and Alvin Liknes.              "There are still many questions left to be answered, however, due to       charges before the courts, I can't release those details and the       investigation continues," said Hanson.              Police said there was evidence a violent crime occurred in the southwest       Calgary home.              The search for evidence will continue this week at the Spyhill landfill       in Calgary, where investigators are still sifting through mounds of garbage.              Police will also continue to search an acreage in Airdrie that belongs       to Garland's parents.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
