US congresswoman proposes asylum for Canadian protesters

A US congresswoman has promised to introduce legislation to
grant asylum to Canadian truckers facing persecution from their
government for being involved in the recent `Freedom Convoy'
protests against Covid-19 restrictions.

Republican New Mexico Congresswoman Yvette Herrell announced
her campaign to provide refuge to dissident Canadians on
Saturday, comparing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's
"heavy-handed crackdown against peaceful protesters" to that of
"an authoritarian regime like Venezuela."
