Bah. Must vent. Brand new PC (not older then 2 years, P-IV 2.5G/MSI 5665E
i850-board, and the owner lost his mobo driver cd.
XP (with SP1 slipstreamed) didn't find
   - the Radeon 9000 graphic
   - the intel ac97 sound
   - the hauppauge winTV
   - the acpi (!) - no standby, no shutoff
   - crashed (hard reboot) upon inserting a datafab usb cardreader

Had to google and dig about two hours for the drivers, no support on the MSI
site anymore ("out of production"). Though the datafab drivers have been
working with XP for the last 2 years, I couldn't get them working this
time. A reinstall was necessary due to a b0rken registry and worm
   infestations.
Now after I had sorted out everything except the cardreader, I got
enthusiastic about Mandrake (had planned a dual boot install). Needless to
say Mdk10 installed almost without a hitch. Just stopped booting at a early
stage (guess hotplug) but continued when I unplugged the usb card
reader :). Found _and_configured_ the radeon, the hauppauge, two nic's, the
sound, a hp psc500 multifunction scanner/printer, and even the datafab when
it gets inserted after bootup (already did read out a digicam memory card).
A short visit at plf and off we went watching dvd ;-).
