   Due to trauma, I mean. Drowning obviously allows one to fill one's lungs   
   with water (though a concern with drowning isn't actually just the water you   
   swallow, but the upset of the salt levels in the lungs that can cause water   
   to be absorbed, or diffuse out of, the lungs at an unhealthy flux rate.) The   
   problem there isn't always lungs filled with fluid, so much as alveoli can   
   be so congested with liquid (or become so dried out, depending on the salts)   
   that they have trouble actually transferring O2. That doesn't require the   
   entire lung to fill. (Part of what makes drowning in saltwater so dangerous   
   is that the first stop water makes when it hits your lungs, is the alveoli;   
   the rest of the lungs follow, but damage has already begun. )
