   Can I ask you a question Harlan? Do you drive a car? or other forms of   
   motorized transport? Do you perhaps cook? Do you have lights in your house?   
   Do you switch them on? Do you? Bloody hell! Well, let me let you in or   
   something... it might shock you a little... you're part of the root of all   
   evil. Where do you think the electricity comes from? Where do you think the   
   gas in the car or the bus comes from? Because of you, we geologists are in   
   business. If you had it your way, and every geologist would stop studying   
   geology, you would be the instigator of a massive economic recline, famine,   
   war... armageddon. You would be, well, the Devil.   
   But hey, I know you're just a human being, like we are. We all have our   
   ideas and opinions. I can not blame you for that which you wrote. But   
   perhaps I should let you in on another, even more disturbing fact... well,   
   its not really a fact, its something we can all see if we look carefully.   
   See what I just described, how we all uphold our world to what it is? Look   
   around you, look at the people, busy, busy, always doing something, if they   
   have nothing to do, they'll think of something. They're running away,   
   they're all afraid, deep inside. They say they're happy, but when the ****   
   hits the fan and they hear they have one month to live, they're extremely   
   scared. Death, they're all running away from death, from suffering, and from   
   themselves. No-one really knows who they are, look in the mirror quietly for   
   10 minutes and see that deep fear many see. Its not witchcraft, its just a   
   mirror and you. When we learn that we die, we enter a vicious dark spiral of   
   worry and fear, the eternity of the unknown. For you it might be easy,   
   claiming that you know the 'truth'. From what source Harlan? A 2000 year old   
   story? Written and rewritten and edited a thousand times? Look around you,   
   everyone is afraid of it or running away from it. From suffering. If you   
   look carefully at all those busy people, you'll be able to see it: we're   
   already in hell. It a matter of getting out now. You're almost on the right   
   path, but we geologists are not seeking spiritual truth through minerals and   
   oil, just the physical truth. I know plenty of Chistian and Buddhist   
   geologists. Geology is just a tool Harlan, just a tool to survive in hell.   
   And if the stories conflict, then you just don't understand the bible. In   
   the meanwhile, everyone is looking for a way out of suffering. My way is   
   buddhism, yours is Christianity... but you don't seem to be getting the   
   point. You better read the Bible more carefully, use your brains and you   
   intuition - God gave it to you.
