   I dimly recall a science fiction story about a future in which you need a   
   license to procreate.  The prime test for this license is living with a   
   robot toddler for a year.  At the end, when the formerly baby-rabid   
   couple have withdrawn their application, we find that the robot isn't an   
   AI, as the applicants were told.  It is in fact, a teleoperated   
   machine whose hidden operator is trying his malevolent best to get the   
   prospective parents to change their mind.   
      
   We could really use some robo-brats.
