I       >> >> > don't hear too much concerning the holocaust of Soviet citizens by       >> >> > Stalin. Why is that?              The first and foremost reason is because we have no grounds to       compliment ourselves in that regard. Yes, Stalin killed more people       than Hitler, but only because he was around longer to do it. And he       was around longer to do it because our nations stopped Hitler and       didn't stop Stalin. Every time a documentary or work of fiction       centers around Hitler's villainy in the United States and the former       British Empire, it strokes the national pride of the audiences,       because he was that bad and we stopped him. We didn't stop Stalin.       Stalin died in bed of old age and his successor was a little less       vicious and subsequent successors continued to ease up until things       collapsed of their own weight. Evil wasn't defeated. It just sort of       faded. So people like the Hitler story in a way they don't the Stalin       story, because it has the ending they clamour for in fiction with the       bad man brought low by people they can identify with.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
