   is substantially different than most others in that the natives have never

   Much of this owes to accidents of history rather than the milk of human   
   kindness: exempli gratia Indians were *necessary* for the Fur Trade so   
   the Fur Companies and Yuro traders made real efforts to treat   
   them as business partners and human equals.  Fur company men acknowledged   
   their native wives and children and their companies did too.
