A whole lot of people are supporting Remembrance Day for very wrong reasons.
   Almost every
vet will say that the war he/she participated in "was hell" and that we must
   learn from
those experiences. And then, we have those same vets talking about pride in
   those who are
serving overseas in war right now. Why would someone 'be'proud' of someone
   participating
   in something that's "hell"?

That's the problem with Remembrance Day and the solicitation of money through
   poppy
campaigns - they entice everyone to 'take pride' in supporting those very
   people who've
nothing but bad memories of their 'hells'. As long as we think of wars as
   something to be
proud of taking part in, the vets are undoing their own experiences - and
   promoting others
   to repeat them.

When the war vets motto turns to "remember what happened to us and don't let
   it happen to
your sons and daughters", I may buy a poppy.
